
Most active shares in Toronto on Friday

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (10,288.01, up 42.10 points):
Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B) Mining. Up $1.49 or eight per cent to $19.99 with 15,584,048 traded. Teck struck a $1.74-billion private placement Friday with China Investment Corp., which will buy 101.3 million class B voting shares for $17.21 each, 17.5 per cent of the company's B shares.
Nuvo Research Inc. (TSX:NRI). Drug development. Up six cents or 17.6 per cent to 40 cents with 4,529,638 traded. The biggest one-day increase for the stock since June 8 when they gained 10 cents.
Colombia Goldfields Ltd. (TSX:GOL) Mining. Up two cents or 44 per cent to seven cents with 3,354,902 traded. The company announced Friday that the TSX has extended its review of the eligibility of its common shares until Sept. 3.
Western Canadian Coal Corp. (TSX:WTN) Mining. Up five cents or 2.8 per cent to $1.86 with 1,918,862 traded.
Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR) Mining. Price unchanged at 53 cents with 1,625,867 traded.
Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC) Insurance. Up 15 cents or 0.8 per cent to $19.97 with 1,677,317 traded.
Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Financial services. Up 53 cents or 1.1 per cent to $48.00 with 1,536,876 traded.
TSX Venture Exchange (1,092.96, up 0.38 point):
Bio-Extraction Inc. (TSXV:BXI). Oilseed extraction. Up nine cents or 11.5 per cent to 87 cents with 4,547,020 traded.
Encore Renaissance Resources Corp. (TSXV:EZ) Diamonds and gold. .Up one cent or 25 per cent to five cents with 4,423,832 traded.
Companies reporting major news:
Petro Andina Resources Inc. (TSX:PAR). Energy. Petro Andinasaid Friday its board is urging shareholders to reject an unsolicited takeover bid from a private Dutch company. Petro Andina said the $400-million offer from Pluspetrol Resources Corp. was "inadequate from a financial point of view."
