OpenOffice 3 for Mac
I just downloaded OpenOffice 3 for Mac on Sunday.
Unlike version 2, which required Mac users to run a linux shell called X11 in order to use the office productivity suite, version 3 runs natively on intel-based Macs.
I wrote a story using OpenOffice yesterday and noticed signficant speed improvements over my outdated version of Microsoft Office (Version 2004). That's mostly because Office 2004 for Mac isn't a universal binary, it runs in Rosetta or PowerPC emulated-mode.
I'll post more thoughts on OpenOffice 3 for Mac soon. But you can try it out yourself for free here.. Having used OpenOffice 2 on Ubuntu Linux for the past eight months or so, I feel confident in saying its a decent alternative to Microsoft Office.
