It's all about the data plan
If Rogers wants to turn the iPhone into a mass-market succecss, it's going to have to roll out an AFFORDABLE and robust voice and data plan. Say $30 a month for decent voice and $30 for data, plus services fees, etc.
If it doesn't, it may find the iPhone will only appeal to a small group of dedicated tech fans, while the consumer market moves elsewhere.
Thankfully, it seems Rogers gets it. (I reserve judgement until the plans are announced):
From The Toronto Star:
Wireless prices are set to fall at the country's biggest carrier just in time for the Canadian launch of the data-hungry iPhone, but don't expect to see the same "unlimited" deals offered in the United States.
Nadir Mohamed, the chief operating officer of Rogers Communications Inc., said yesterday that wireless rates will "evolve" as subscribers begin using their mobile phones for more than just talking – a trend that's expected to gain traction once Apple Inc.'s iPhone is made available to Canadians through Rogers on July 11.
