N.L. health authority revises number of patients retested for breast cancer
Published Tuesday August 19th, 2008

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland's largest health authority has identified an additional 10 breast cancer patients who had their hormone receptor tests sent out of province for retesting.
Of those patients, Eastern Health says three have had their results changed after the new tests.
Four of the patients are still living while six are deceased.
The updated figures brings the number of retested patients to 1,023, with 637 having confirmed results and 386 having changed results.
An inquiry is trying to determine how an estimated 400 patients under Eastern Health's care were given inaccurate results on their breast cancer tests.
Problems with the testing weren't detected until the spring of 2005, when doctors began questioning the hormone receptor test results of a patient with breast cancer.
