Bangor troop greeters restore display of Stephen King items despite comments

BANGOR, Maine - The troop greeters at Bangor International Airport have restored a display featuring photos and a newspaper article about writer Stephen King.

The materials were taken down earlier by greeters after King's remarks about reading and the military were publicized this week by a conservative blogger.

King told high school students that reading leads to good jobs, while those who aren't good readers have lesser prospects, including military service.

Tom Kohl, chairman of the troop greeters, says King used a poor choice of words. But he says there was a unanimous vote to restore the Stephen King display.
