Body discovered in remote area outside Fredericton

Western Valley Region RCMP are investigating after a body was discovered Sunday afternoon in a remote are in Riceville, west of Fredericton.

RCMP Sgt. Dan Sharpe confirmed the body was found by officers around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports a vehicle, a Nissan Frontier truck, was discovered with a deceased person inside.

He said there’s nothing to believe the death was suspicious in nature but the coroner’s office continues to investigate the cause of death.

“We believe it is a person reported missing, but we are awaiting the official notice from the coroner’s office,” he said.

Sharpe said the individual’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
