Atlantic premiers get Quebec invitation from Samuel de Champlain

FREDERICTON - The Atlantic premiers are meeting Friday in Fredericton, but before they could get down to work they got an interesting invitation to another meeting.

An actor portraying Samuel de Champlain greeted the premiers and invited them to the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, and to the Council of the Federation meeting there in July.

The Champlain character - in full costume - read the invitation from a scroll and gave a copy to the premiers of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams was late arriving because his flight into Fredericton was delayed by high winds.
