ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan's army says it has killed at least 60 militants in an offensive against insurgents in the country's northwest.

The military issued a statement Saturday saying the militants were killed Friday evening when the security forces backed by helicopter gunships and artillery targeted militant hideouts in troubled Swat valley.

The military says the offensive was launched shortly after troops found a Chinese engineer who had been kidnapped along with a colleague by Taliban militants.

It says the second Chinese was still in the custody of militants and efforts were under way to rescue him.
