DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. - Quebec provincial police say a float plane carrying three Americans has crashed into a river about 100 kilometres east of Montreal.

One person was injured in the crash, but his life is not thought to be in danger.

Authorities say two float planes were headed to Northern Quebec Wednesday morning from the United States, planning to stop first near Drummondville, Que.

One of the planes ran into trouble while landing and crashed into the St-Francois River.

Police spokesperson Martine Isabelle says those on board managed to free themselves from the wreckage and were taken ashore by a nearby boater.

The Transportation Safety Board has taken over the investigation.
