While walking on the fishermen’s wharf at Loggiecroft, Kouchibouguac National Park, on Sept. 4, my wife and I were surprised to see this great blue heron appearing as a deckhand on this fishing boat. Not normally a deep-water fisher, this young bird must be confused. Judging by size and colour I’m guessing it is a juvenile. – Peter Gadd, Miramichi Yes, it is an immature great blue heron based on the brown edges on the wing coverts and some other plumage features. – Jim Wilson
