We have had a great year for pelagic sea birds including puffins, razorbills, gannets, jaegers, greater shearwaters and plenty of bald eagles. The razorbill shown was on Simpson’s Island. – Mike Strong, L’Etete The razorbill is a small auk related to the puffin. This species is locally common summer resident, breeding on several islands in the outer Bay of Fundy, and is very common here in the winter. The Bay of Fundy is a very important wintering area for many, many thousands of razorbills. Unfortunately this species has declined in recent years, largely due to mortality from oil spills and illegal hunting. – Don McAlpine
