Sable River, N.S., man fined $5,000 for illegal lobster fishing

SHELBURNE, N.S. - A Nova Scotia man has been fined $5,000 for illegally using lobster traps.

William Barnes pleaded guilty in provincial court in Shelburne today to fishing lobster traps that belonged to someone else. He also admitted to theft.

The 68-year-old from Sable River was fined another $750 for the theft charge.

Barnes was charged January 8 after federal Fisheries officers responded to a tip.
