Pakistan's chief justice visits Bhutto's widower in first trip since being freed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan's deposed chief justice is visiting the widower of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in his first excursion since being freed from house arrest.

Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry was put under house arrest more than four months ago when President Pervez Musharraf purged the courts to avert legal challenges to his disputed re-election.

He was freed on Monday when a longtime Bhutto loyalist was elected Pakistan's new prime minister and immediately freed all judges detained by Musharraf.

A spokesman for Bhutto's party says Chaudhry arrived Thursday evening at the home of Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari, to "express condolences."

Bhutto died in a suicide attack in December.
