Palestinian killed by Israeli army fire near Gaza-Israel border fence: medics

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Palestinian medics say a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli army fire as he approached Gaza's border fence with Israel.

The Israeli military says the man was armed and hurled a grenade at forces close to the fence Friday.

The man's body was retrieved by Palestinian medics Saturday.

Israel does not allow Gaza residents to come close to the border fence.

Israel fears militants will launch rockets from the border area into nearby Israeli communities or try to sneak into Israel to carry out attacks.
