Alberta auto premiums all over the map at insurance rate board hearing

CALGARY - Future automobile premiums for Alberta drivers are all over the map at an insurance rate board hearing in Calgary.
One argument suggests drivers could see a slight decline in premiums, while another says rates could go up by 37 per cent. Numbers prepared for the board based on the current cost of falling injury claims show that rates should come down.
But that trend likely stems from a cap the province imposed on soft-tissue injuries and which has since been overturned by a court ruling.
The Insurance Board of Canada says the ruling could create "huge price shocks" for drivers because premiums will have to go up if claims increase again.
The board is to rule on insurance rates by early August; they would come into effect in November.
