Flood watch issued in Manitoba after Interlake pounded by rain
Published Tuesday September 2nd, 2008

ASHERN, Man. - A flood watch has been issued after heavy rain hit the southern Interlake region of Manitoba over the holiday weekend.
Manitoba Water Stewardship says overland flooding may have already begun in some areas north of Ashern to Gypsumville.
Up to 100 millimetres of rain fell on the region between Saturday night and Sunday morning, and the province says any additional rain over the next five days could cause "serious overland flooding."
Environment Canada predicts another 40 millimetres could fall between Sunday and Monday.
Areas of the Interlake like the rural municipalities of Armstrong and Bifrost were hit with heavy flooding last month, and the province says the ground there is saturated.
While an additional 40 millimetres hit those areas Monday morning, the province isn't expecting flooding to be as severe as it was earlier.
