The casket of Cpl. Dustin Wasden is carried into the Bourdages Cameron Memorial Arena for his funeral in Spiritwood, Sask., on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008. Cpl. Wasden and two other Canadian soldiers died in Kandahar, Afghanistan on August 20.

Cpl. Dustin Wasden, 25, died Aug. 20 along with two other soldiers when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle while on patrol in the war-torn nation. The hockey arena in Wasden's hometown of Spiritwood was packed with mourners as a military honour guard carried the soldier's coffin inside for the service.

Members of Wasden's unit - the Edmonton-based 12 Field Squadron, 1 Combat Engineer Regiment - were on hand, along with RCMP officers dressed in red serge.

Wasden leaves behind a wife and five-year-old daughter.

His funeral comes the same day three more Canadian soldiers were killed and five others were injured in an attack on an armoured vehicle in Afghanistan.
