HALIFAX, N.S. - The military has identified a Nova Scotia woman who was killed Friday in a fiery collision between a sport utility vehicle and a military bus.
Mike Bonin, a spokesman for CFB Halifax, says Carmel Payne was killed when her vehicle slammed into the bus outside Dartmouth, N.S.
Bonin says she was married to petty officer (first class) Rick Payne, who was on an overseas deployment and is returning home.
Bonin says the couple has two adult daughters, and it's believed the victim was in her mid 40s.
Police said Friday that investigators were trying to figure out if the SUV crossed the centre line before the crash at about 9:40 a.m.
Two witnesses said the military vehicle was in its own lane, travelling at a normal speed, when they heard a loud bang and saw debris flying everywhere.
