Fire destroys New Minas, N.S., eatery; ornamental carp in tank survives

NEW MINAS, N.S. - Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a restaurant in New Minas early today.
Firefighters were called to the Double Dragon on Commercial Street at about 2:20 a.m., but flames were already shooting through the roof when they arrived. New Minas Chief Jim Redmond says it took five hours to bring the blaze under control because the building had more than one roof.
He believes the fire started in the kitchen.
Redmond wouldn't say if the fire is suspicious or not, only that they haven't ruled anything out.
Amazingly, an ornamental carp in a fish tank near the restaurant's front door survived the blaze.
