KELOWNA, B.C. - A woman had to deliver her own baby in a car, after being induced at hospital and sent home.

Christine Kendal-Ward gave birth to her daughter Hannah Jude while being driven home from Kelowna General Hospital Wednesday. The 23-year-old had been at the hospital earlier in the day because she was late in her delivery.

She had been induced but was not reacting, so doctors sent her home.

On her way, her labour began and there was no time to get her back to the hospital.

The Lake Country resident gave birth on Highway 97 near Kelowna airport, and both mother and child are said to be doing fine.
