N.B. Tories stick to leadership convention date despite federal election

FREDERICTON - The New Brunswick Conservative party is sticking to its plan for an Oct. 18 leadership convention, despite an anticipated federal election earlier that week.

Party president Raoul Leger says the party executive met Wednesday night to discuss the matter and unanimously agreed the convention date will remain the same.

Some political observers say the federal election - expected Oct. 14 - will rob the provincial leadership campaign of attention and volunteers.

Leger says October will be an exciting time for the party's federal and provincial members.

Kevin Price, the party's executive director, says he believes a federal election will actually excite people to become involved with the leadership race.
