Software firm Open Text appoints Gar Emerson to board of directors

WATERLOO, Ont. - Open Text Corp. (TSX:OTC) named Harry Garfield (Gar) Emerson, a former investment banker and corporate and securities lawyer with merger and acquisitions experience, to its board of directors Tuesday.

"Gar brings with him incredible experience and knowledge in the areas of corporate governance and strategy," said Tom Jenkins, executive chairman and chief strategy officer of Open Text.

Emerson is the principal of Emerson Advisory, a business and financial advisory firm that provides advice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, governance, restructurings and strategy.

He is also the chairman of First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. (TSX:FCP) and a director of CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE), Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. (TSX:CTC.A), Sentry Select Capital Corp., Wittington Investments, Ltd. and Pelmorex Investments Inc.
