
Woman charged in N.B. child abduction sent for psychiatric assessment

MONCTON, N.B. - A woman from Shemogue, N.B., who faces several charges following a child abduction has been sent for a five-day psychiatric assessment.
RCMP made an arrest without incident early Monday morning after a standoff at a home in the Turtle Creek area, south of Moncton.
Police say the woman fled with her eight-year-old child on Saturday following an altercation with two mental health workers.
They were able to track her movement and the child was recovered unharmed and taken into the protection of Family and Community Services.
The woman - whose name is not being released to protect the identity of the child - faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon, child abduction, and unlawful confinement.
Police have also Bernard Small, 37, with obstruction and aiding and abetting in a child abduction.
