SAO PAULO, Brazil - Air Canada and TAM, Brazil's largest airline, have agreed to offer each others' customers an expanded choice of destinations and transfers in their home countries.

The introduction of codeshare services and reciprocal travel reward benefits by the two airlines is planned to take effect in November, subject to government approval.

With codesharing, Air Canada will be able to sell seats on TAM flights to and from six additional Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro. Air Canada already serves Sao Paulo, Brazil's biggest city.

TAM customers will be able to access Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Quebec City through Air Canada's flights between Sao Paulo and Toronto.

In addition, the Star Alliance - which includes Air Canada, Germany's Lufthansa, Air China, and United of the United States - announced Tuesday that TAM has been accepted as a future member.
