Canada loses to Australia in semis at women's lacrosse World Cup

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Sarah Mollison scored three times to lead Australia to a 12-10 win over Canada in semifinal action Thursday at the women's lacrosse World Cup.

The victory moves the Aussies into Saturday's final against the unbeaten Americans, who walloped England 20-3 in the other semifinal. The Canadians will face the English for bronze earlier Saturday.

Brooke McKenzie of Corner Brook, N.L., led the way with two goals and an assist for Canada, while Jess Brownridge of Whitby, Ont., and Dana Dobbie of Guelph, Ont., each added a pair of goals.

Australia broke open a see-saw matchup with four straight goals in the second half. With Canada leading 9-8 late, Sarah Forbes tied the game and Mollison's third goal put the Aussies ahead for good.

Stacey Morlang and Marlee Paton each added a pair of goals for Australia, while Cassandra Cursaro, Melissa Williams, Sonia Lamonica and Tegan Brown had singles.

Abbey Friend, Alana Chan, Julie Foote and Katie Brooks replied for Canada.
