Lucian Bute, from Montreal, right, and Librado Andrade from La Habra, CA, trade punches during their IBF World Super Middleweight championship bout in Montreal Friday, Oct. 24, 2008.

Andrade's promoter Golden Boy edged InterBox of Montreal to win a purse bid in New York this week and will have the right to decide the date and the site of the much-anticipated rematch.

Golden Boy bid US$1.211 million, only $16,000 more than InterBox. As the champion, Bute will get 75 per cent of the purse, or $908,000, the biggest payday of his career.

Even though Bute (24-0) is from Montreal and Andrade (28-2) trains there under Howard Grant, a neutral site is likely due to the controversial ending to their meeting on Oct. 24 at the Bell Centre.

Bute was leading handily on the scorecards, but was floored late in the 12th and final round and was barely able to regain his feet to get the unanimous decision. Some said Bute benefited from a long count and from friendly officiating from referee Marlon Wright and should have been tagged with his first career defeat.

The rematch is likely to be held in the United States. There is talk of making it the co-feature of the Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez bout Sept. 19 in Las Vegas.

Golden Boy has 15 days to announce details of the bout.

"I'm disappointed not to fight in Montreal, but I'm ready to fight anyone, anywhere," said Bute. "The important thing is that I get to fight Andrade again."

InterBox boss Jean Bedard said he was working on a unification bout against WBC champion Carl Froch, but Bute wanted Andrade first.

"Lucian told me he was thinking of Andrade night and day," said Bedard. "He wants to settle this question once and for all."

Both have had one fight since their showdown. Bute took out Fulgencia Zuniga in four rounds on Mar. 13, while Andrade won a 12-round decision over Vitali Tsypko of Ukraine on April 4.
