Published Thursday November 19th, 2009

KHARTOUM, Sudan - The U.N. peacekeeping mission in Darfur says eleven people died in Darfur following an attack by unidentified gunmen on two villages in the southern part of the western Sudanese region.
UNAMID says it received confirmed reports that four others were wounded and two are missing after the Tuesday attack on the villages of Taman and Shaleb, 124 miles (200 kilometres) south of El Fasher city.
The agency reported the attack in its Thursday bulletin. It gave no motive for the attack.
The Darfur conflict began in February 2003 when ethnic African rebels took up arms against the Arab-dominated Sudanese government, claiming discrimination and neglect.
