TORONTO - A looming strike by administrative, technical and support staff at the University of Toronto has been averted.
The United Steelworkers, the union representing 3,500 employees at the university, announced Sunday they've reached a tentative agreement with the administration.
It came just hours before a strike deadline. No details have been released.
The employees had voted 87 per cent to give the union a strike mandate.
The university's three campuses will hold meetings over the next several days to discuss the settlement, with a vote expected Friday.
The United Steelworkers also represents staff at two of the university's federated colleges, Victoria University and St. Michael's, where negotiations will begin soon.
