Canadian mixed martial arts fighter Alessio loses WEC fight in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - Canadian mixed martial arts fighter John Alessio lost to Brock Larson at a World Extreme Cagefighting event Wednesday night.

Alessio, who had posted three straight wins since losing to Carlos Condit last March for the vacant WEC welterweight title, was disqualified in the first round after an illegal knee to the head. Alessio is a native of Vancouver who now lives in Las Vegas.

In the main event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Brian (All-American) Stann won the light-heavyweight title with a technical knockout over Doug (Rhino) Marshall in the first round.
