Not Bourbon makes triumphant return at Overstake Stakes

TORONTO - Charles Fipke's Not Bourbon made a triumphant return to the races on Saturday, winning the $125,000 Overskate Stakes.
The Queen's Plate winner, who hasn't raced since he finished sixth in the Prince of Wales Stakes July 13, took the event by 4 lengths and reeled off seven furlongs in 1:21.78.
For the son of Not Impossible, who was ridden by Jono Jones, the effort was a return to the high-calibre form he had displayed throughout the spring, when he won three consecutive stakes events: the Queenston, Plate Trial and Queen's Plate.
"He's getting to be real professional," said trainer Roger Attfield. "He's just a very good horse, no question about it."
Yummy With Butter rallied for second, while Grazettes Landing held for third. Archers Alyancer and Dancer's Bajan rounded out the field.
"He's as good or better (since the spring)," praised Jones.
"Throughout the whole race, he relaxed perfectly. When I asked him to go, it was just a matter of how much he'd win by."
Not Bourbon was slated to compete in the Vice Regent Stakes, which was to be his first turf attempt, but he injured himself in his stall hours before the August 31 event.
Not Bourbon now has six wins, two seconds and one third from 12 starts.
He returned $4.60 and $2.70, combining with Yummy With Butter ($3 to place) for a $16.30 exactor. There was no show or triactor wagering.
