Committee formed to find long term help for depressed lobster fishery in N.S.
Published Friday January 23rd, 2009

BARRINGTON PASSAGE, N.S. - A committee has been formed in southwestern Nova Scotia to try to convince governments to provide immediate help to the lobster fishery and formulate a long-term plan for sustainability.
About 30 people from the business and fishery sectors met in Barrington Passage on Thursday night.
Many small communities are worried local economies will collapse as deckhands are laid off and captains struggle to make their boat payments.
The committee wants to get input on how to formulate its strategy from business people and fishermen from across the region.
It plans to hold meetings in Yarmouth and Bridgewater in the coming weeks.
