TORONTO - The Toronto Rock are bringing back a member from their last championship team.
The Rock acquired defender Phil Sanderson from the Buffalo Bandits on Friday in exchange for Chris Driscoll. Sanderson has spent 10 years in the National Lacrosse League - including three seasons in Toronto from 2004 to 2007. He won a championship with the Rock in 2005 and added another with the Bandites in 2008.
"Phil is an unbelievable leader in the room and on the floor," Rock coach Troy Cordingley said in a statement. "He is a smart defender that plays the defensive system well that we will be playing this upcoming year.
"Most importantly, he is a proven winner who has won at every level of lacrosse that he has played in."
Sanderson has played in 152 career NLL games, racking up 109 points (24-85) and scooping 1,089 loose balls.
Driscoll was the second captain in Rock history, taking over following Jim Veltman's retirement. The 37-year-old will get his second stint in Buffalo after previously playing for the Bandits from 1999-2001.
In 203 career games, he has collected 595 points (233-362) and 949 loose balls.
