Ottawa urges retailer to pull counterfeit toothbrushes from shelves

OTTAWA - Dollarama stores have pulled some toothbrushes from their shelves at Ottawa's behest after one case in which the bristles became dislodged and got stuck in someone's throat.
Health Canada is now urging other retailers not to sell toothbrushes labelled as Oral-B Classic 40 Medium. Manufacturer Proctor and Gamble says the toothbrushes are counterfeits and it hasn't made that particular style in almost a decade.
Although the person who reported the bristles becoming dislodged didn't need medical treatment, Health Canada says the toothbrushes are a choking hazard and should be avoided.
The brushes can be identified by the Oral-B logo printed in silver text on a peel-away label on the handle.
The logo on a genuine Oral-B toothbrush is embossed on the handle, not printed on a peel-away label.
